Hellissandur and Rif are two small villages 3 km apart located west to Ólafsvík on the Snæfellsness peninsula. In the old times Hellisandur was a fishing village but now most of the fishing activities moved to the neighbor village of Rif and Ólafsvík.
Every summer Next to Rif a large colony of Arctic Tern colonies the area. This yearly event draws many bird watching enthusiastic who come to appreciate this wonder of nature. The Arctic Tern is the longest migrating animal on the plant. Migrating from the south pole to north pole area covering distance of over 70000 km annually!

- Gamla Rif Kaffihús – Nice and cozy Coffe house offering great cakes and delicious fish soup. – Open during summer only.
- Kaffe sif – Warm and welcoming café restaurant with a nice wooden deck offering great view of Snæfellsjökull glacier. – Open all year.
